The stories of furniture company leaders about working in wartime conditions are generally similar, although each case has its nuances and peculiarities: the first weeks and months of the war were the most difficult, and in the summer the furniture market began to show signs of revival, in the fall, most companies, although not reaching pre-war production conditions, noticeably stabilized, which they mostly demonstrate today. However, the war affected the capital’s Zone of Comfort<\/a> company differently. As its owner, Maxim Shestopalov, explained, last year the company had more work than it does now. We asked him to tell us more about this paradox, and here’s what we found out.<\/p>\n

The company only resumed its usual furniture work last summer, primarily taking care of pre-war orders.<\/p>\n

And the “I’M Home” project, which you reported on social media, was already new for last year?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– Yes. Our company was invited to participate by the construction company “Ecopan”, which launched a project for modular and frame houses for displaced persons and other temporary needs that arose with the onset of the war. I contacted the representative of the leadership of this company in the spring when I was actively volunteering as a member of the charity fund “Housing for temporarily displaced persons”.<\/em><\/p>\n

For the first demonstration model of such a house, we completed all the interior furnishings and finishes. Now, this modular house model is on display at an exhibition in Kyiv on Kharkivske Road, waiting for an investor to start mass construction of housing according to this project. Of course, we are ready and would be happy to furnish all subsequent houses following the example of the first one. This was our first experience, and we consider that we coped quite well with the task of making a small space as functional and ergonomic as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n

This year, Zone of Comfort company announced that they are launching a new production direction – the construction of unique summer terraces and other small architectural objects. Why did they depart from traditional furniture production?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– We haven’t moved away from furniture – we remain a furniture company, but due to the lack of furniture projects that would give us a sense of confidence, we are forced to look for additional earning opportunities. We have chosen this direction and are currently developing various basic structural options for terrace structures together with our partner company “Sun Cube”, expecting that demand for them will increase significantly with the onset of warmer weather. The models we will have can easily be adapted to the individual needs of each customer. The modern loft-style aesthetics, the ability to assemble and disassemble terraces in the offseason, and an attractive price that is significantly lower than the convenience that a terrace can provide for relaxation are the advantages that we offer.<\/em><\/p>\n

The terrace direction also involves working with metal, which is not a problem because we have reliable contractor partners for this job. Furthermore, we ourselves know how to work with metal. Moreover, we have a state patent for the metal connection elements in our structures, so we guarantee quality. If the terrace direction develops successfully, we can establish our own metalworking workshop.<\/em><\/p>\n

Despite the difficulties that the war has caused and continues to cause, last year was memorable and somewhat pleasant for the company. In the summer, the company received a winning award for participating in the “Furniture Maker of the Year 21” competition. Could you tell me more about the competition project that put the company among the winners?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– The company won in the “Best Office” category<\/a>. This was a project to furnish the office of a large law firm in the capital. It turned out to be the first and so far the only office project for us, which, surprisingly, turned out to be so successful for a company specializing in the production of home furniture. Of course, we shared the joy of victory with our design partners from Lviv, who developed this project for which Zone of Comfort<\/a> company made the furniture.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t
