While most furniture companies in Kyiv stopped working due to the threat to the lives of their employees, as the enemy was stationed near the city, the “Dako”<\/a> factory had another reason: the owners of the company left Kyiv. Oleksandr Kutniak and another employee immediately volunteered for the active army on the first day of the war, while several other employees became territorial defenders, and his wife with children, like thousands of women in Kyiv, fled abroad.<\/p>\n

The company resumed its work and reopened its showroom when Oleksandr was still in the ranks of the Armed Forces. His wife returned and took on all the managerial duties (they were completely interchangeable in the company even before the war). It took about three months to fulfil the pre-war orders, and there were quite a few of them. Some clients who were outside the country postponed their orders until their return, but none of them cancelled the contract. Of course, none of the clients complained about delays caused by the terms of the contract.<\/p>\n

Oleksandr, who was demobilized at the end of the summer due to his health, returned to civilian life, confident that his wife was managing the furniture production well. To secure their family business, he decided to launch two more business directions: craft meat delicacy production and catering services for outdoor events.<\/p>\n

– By the end of last year, with new orders in hand, the company was able to achieve about 70% of production volumes in its main line of business compared to pre-war levels, Alexander Kutniak said. But at the beginning of this year, until March, the market showed a decline again: there was growing anticipation in the society of a possible repeat of the Rusnya attack on February 24. Currently, the market has not only stabilized but also shows growth, which is evidenced by an increasing number of orders for individual furniture projects that we receive.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Before the war, the company offered clients a range of advantages: potential clients could call in a designer for free, the company kept the manufactured furniture until the end of the installation work at the client’s premises, delivered ready-made furniture to clients in Kyiv and the region, guaranteed fast order fulfillment (within two weeks). Now, under the conditions of martial law, are all these advantages still available?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– Yes, it is. Except that, we cannot guarantee the former order fulfilment terms because we are experiencing some personnel tension. Some key specialists have been mobilized, and their replacements (many of whom are displaced persons) are not as skilled yet. We have more problems not with manufacturers, but with installation crews, where there is significant staff turnover.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Also, you offered clients a whole range of built-in household appliances for comprehensive order fulfilment…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– It was like this. To provide this service, we arranged for the production of this equipment abroad with a partner under the trade name “Nett”. However, last year during an enemy shelling of the capital, a rocket hit the warehouse with this equipment and destroyed it all. After that, I decided to withdraw from this project. Moreover, the current absence of an offer with the installed equipment of significant impact on customer interest in our company is not present.<\/em><\/p>\n

– As you told me, you developed a family business in areas unrelated to furniture. Did you manage to somehow get into furniture manufacturing directly?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

– We were lucky, you could say: we completed the modernization of the production literally on the eve of the war, equipping it with new machinery and other equipment. And the final mastering of it fell precisely during the war.<\/em><\/p>\n

And last year, we managed to launch a new production direction in our furniture manufacturing – we established the production of tables and soft chairs. It is still small-scale, we have developed several models of these furniture pieces for retail sales through our store, but the beginning of its development has been laid. We see it as promising.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t
