The United States imports more and more furniture

Everything that happened last week in Ukraine and the world and is relevant for the furniture maker, read in our digest:

1. If the situation between Ukraine and Belarus is not resolved politically and economically by the end of the summer, Ukraine will finally lose the Belarusian market, experts say.

The exchange of restrictive measures on both sides, initiated by Kyiv, has led to the fact that Ukraine has received a significantly more noticeable negative impact on its economy than Belarus. The vast majority of Ukrainian restrictive measures do not apply, while the Belarusian ban is in full force.

2. A technology company Roosh has appeared in Ukraine, which may also be of interest to creative furniture makers. The company creates its own IT products and invests in innovative projects. The Roosh team is going to develop in different technological directions, but priority is given to projects related to artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI and ML). The company plans to create the largest accelerator in Europe for the development of business projects based on artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Roosh Ventures is a venture fund created by the Roosh team. Helps startups grow faster. Roosh Ventures tracks and provides funding for the most promising projects in the United States and Europe. Priority is given to projects in the early stages.

3. Ukraine became the first country in the world to equate a digital passport with a paper one at the legislative level. From August 23 of this year, citizens of Ukraine will identify their identity with a digital passport in the application “Action”. You can not carry a paper passport with you. Thus, starting from August 2021, the introduction of the paperless regime will start in Ukraine.

4. Exposicam, which organizes the fair of furniture suppliers Sicam, still anticipates that the event will take place, as planned, in Pordenone from 12 to 15 October this year. According to the organizers, about 500 exhibitors have already booked the stands, and 135 of them are foreign companies. According to the current list of participants, this year’s Sicam will feature a significant number of companies specializing in the production of wood-based panels.

5. Imports of wooden furniture in the United States in May 2021 increased by 12%, which was another record. The cost of supplies from abroad exceeded $ 2.25 billion, which is twice as much as in May last year. As a result, the figure exceeded the historical maximum set in January 2021.

In May, imports from Vietnam grew by 20% year on year and by 73% since the beginning of the year. Imports from China grew by 10% on a monthly basis and by 57% on an annualized basis. The total import of wooden furniture has grown by 60% since the beginning of 2021.
