“UAFM in the faces”: interview with Vladimir Tarasov, head of the company “TARASOV – author’s furniture”

Do not give in to difficulties

Mukachevo company “TARASOV – author’s furniture” already by its name makes it clear who its founder and current leader. Just like the other company, TARASOV and his comrades, although to a lesser extent because Tarasov’s comrades are secretive. UAM’s “old-timers” knew these Uzhhorod furniture makers as TT Plus, and the current two are its successors. The name of the first clearly indicates the specialization: the production of custom furniture. Well, the site of the company specifies this specialization from which it is clear: in its priority kitchen. Classical and modern. The main thing that is inherent in them, Mr Volodymyr Tarasov emphasized, is ergonomic design. Classics, of course, are more focused on the array (“Tarasivtsi” prefer oak, waltz, cherry), in models of modern style – composite board materials (over 50 types), plastics, metal, glass and mirrors are widely used.

However, the Tarasivtsi forces provide production of home furniture and other categories – sliding door wardrobes, wardrobe, children’s furniture, as well as office and trade furniture, bank furniture, etc.

It would be strange if furniture production, which is located practically on the border with the European Union, was limited to the Ukrainian market. Uzhhorod furniture makers are not such eccentrics, so they actively use their advantageous location and their furniture production opportunities, finding customers in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, where they know a thing or two about furniture. Therefore, to satisfy local customers, you need to try hard. For more than a year now (Tarasov and his team have been furnishing for more than 20 years), and beyond.

– The situation forces us to fulfil orders, albeit a few, but at a high level of quality and readiness, so that there are no complaints that are unprofitable for the company and that we have to finish and rework something several times, send people to eliminate shortcomings, and this requires significant material costs (especially in the case of foreign customers), and the fact that complaints damage the company’s reputation, namely it is for us the main “seeker” of customers, – says Vladimir Petrovich.

When Vladimir Petrovich told us a year ago how the company lives, in his story, of course, there was more optimism than now. Although even then he was worried that his company did not escape the annoyance from which almost all furniture in the western region suffers. This is a shortage of skilled workers due to the mass exodus of people to foreign earnings. This inhibitory circumstance prevents furniture makers from developing their companies: increasing production volumes, developing new markets. And the current coronavirus attack has further complicated the situation. In such conditions, Tarasov’s companies are forced to reduce the number of employees by almost half, because the number of orders, especially foreign ones, has decreased, so production volumes have also decreased. However, Transcarpathian furniture, as well as Ukrainian furniture in general, is already hardened by various troubles, which periodically test them for strength and viability, so they do not give in to the mercy of the current difficulties.
