“UAFM in the faces”: an interview with Yuri Belyaev, co-founder of ADS company

Due to this the company “ADS” has become more interesting for furniture manufacturers, more necessary for them

The organizational feature of ADS is its duality. The company is one, but part of it is run by one of the co-founders, Andriy Mandzhaly, with an office in Lviv, and the other in Kharkiv was run by Yuriy Belyaev, from whom we learned all this.

Both co-founders, even before starting their own business, also worked geographically differently in a company similar to their current one. We worked until we realized its futility: the company began not to meet market demands – neither the range nor the organization of work with clients and two ambitious colleagues convinced themselves that the same business could do better, manage more efficiently. And now we can say that they have achieved their goal. Now their company “ADS” is no longer two, but four reliable “points of support”: there are production centres in Kyiv and Odesa, although the areas of responsibility of the co-founders are also two – conditionally east and west. The fact that it has 32 showrooms in 25 cities of the country testifies to the scale of the UDF company.

Of course, having started their own business, they did what they were doing and being employees and what they understood well – the supply to the country’s market of aluminium profiles for the production of sliding door wardrobes, accessories for them. But the founders of the ADS company immediately focused on the fact that it should not be a raw material supply, as it was, in which they worked before, but production and service, so they practically stopped wholesale sales of aluminium profiles and instead engaged in the production of cabinet doors. -coupe, room zoning partitions and kitchen facades from a frame aluminium shape. The second thing they aimed at their company was to form a comprehensive offer for furniture clients (again, this was lacking for the company with which Yuri and Andriy said goodbye). Thus, the manufacturers of sliding door wardrobes, their customers, no longer need to purchase materials and components for the manufacture of doors, which relieved them of significant hassles and speeded up the execution of orders. Due to this, ADS, which was almost the first in Ukraine to resort to such a service, became more interesting for them, more necessary for them.

– On the site, you have declared your desire to join the export-capable members of UAFM. Do you have difficulties with this?

– Our products have long been outside the country, but as part of foreign projects implemented by our Ukrainian clients. Based on this, we cannot consider ourselves exporters. And we can when our customers will be foreign furniture makers. And in the Association we are large because we count on its assistance in the realization of our export aspirations, because on our own – given the nature of the products – we are unlikely to realize export intentions. Our products are not serial, but individualized, because this is every sliding door wardrobe for which we make doors to order. Therefore, it would be more realistic for us to enter foreign markets in collaboration with other UAFM members.

– Let’s ask your expert opinion on which of the known systems used in sliding door wardrobes (sliding, opening, hanging, folding) are currently the most popular?

– As the majority of customers of sliding wardrobes – owners of small apartments, and even smart apartments, therefore open systems which need more space, are demanded by the market less (they are ordered mainly by owners of large apartments, houses which resort to design projects of their furnish), therefore more such systems which are convenient and favourable for small-sized apartments, ie sliding-type order more.

It has been predicted many times that sliding door wardrobes will disappear as a type of furniture, but I have never seen such a threat. On the contrary, the fact that systems for sliding door wardrobes are constantly being improved (electric drives, which until recently were considered very advanced, have been replaced by those that are driven by a magnetic field). Now there is a kind of cabinet renaissance: the “commander’s” cabinets, which were installed twenty years ago, are being modified, which is another indication that people do not intend to give up this furniture.

– Do you use aluminium profiles of universal configuration or your own models, so to speak, branded?

– Both are present in our products. Offering profiles of its own developments, the company as a market leader actually sets trends in this matter. After some time, competitors adopt what we offer and proved successful in the market.
