Read about what happened last week in Ukraine and the world, and what is relevant and interesting for the furniture expert, in our digest:

1. Ukraine wants the agreement on safe navigation in the Black Sea to extend not only to grain, Deputy Minister of Economy – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said but also to other goods traditionally exported by our country. He noted that although the “grain corridor” has already started working, the goal of Ukraine “is the full operation of the ports in both directions.” “We are receiving applications from shipowners who are ready to enter our ports for loading, and the first event is expected tomorrow.”

2. The government is preparing a draft law on an additional levy on imports, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a People’s Deputy from the Tax Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, said. Here it is worth noting that the concept of no additional import duties (which is difficult to administer) was chosen, but the introduction of a 10% fee on currency exchange transactions for the purchase of all imported goods and services.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Anti-Crisis Headquarters for Business Assistance insist on conducting detailed consultations on this matter with businesses that have foreign trade operations.

3. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the procedure for paying fines for violating the requirements for advertising employment services. Violators face a fine of ten times the minimum wage — 65,000 hryvnias. “This is about non-compliance with the ban on mentioning in job advertisements such conditions as race, skin colour, age, gender, political, religious and other beliefs or other characteristics that are not related to the nature of the work or the conditions of its performance,” explained the department

4. The well-known manufacturer of hand power tools – Festool expands its range of products with two compact vacuum cleaners: CTC MINI and CTC MIDI. Both vacuum cleaners ensure dust-free mobile work, whether mobile cutting, grinding or drilling. Novelties are ideal for Festool cordless tools.

The innovative automatic start function with Bluetooth® technology and the practical remote control ensure a perfect interaction between the cordless tool and the vacuum cleaner. In both cases, the vacuum cleaner turns on automatically when the cordless tool is started. In addition, both vacuum cleaners impress with maximum suction power thanks to a 36-volt turbine with two 18-volt batteries.

5. Cabinet furniture makers who plan to export to the USA should know that the requirements for the safety of chests of drawers, which are meticulously tested for overturning, have increased there. And after a few years ago there were fatal accidents involving children who climbed onto the dresser and tipped it over with fatal consequences. From this moment, the bottom of the chest of drawers is added to the heaviness. Even a metal plate at the bottom of the product can be used for this. And more often it is just a metal fragment of the back (for example, up to ¼ of its height).
