“UAFM in the faces”: an interview with Igor Vasilyevich Petyukh, founder of the company “Barvy shvydkosti”

The best European brands for the success of Ukrainian business

Igor Vasilyevich Petyukh came to the business he is currently engaged in 1994, we can say, forced, because of the critical situation for him at that time.

Now his business, ie his company “Barvy shvydkosti” – wholesale supply to the domestic market – including for the needs of woodworking and furniture – finishing products from reputable European (mostly Italian) manufacturers: high-quality paints and equipment for their application, decorative HPL- panels, adhesive systems, finishing films, products, technologies and equipment for lamination.

And the compulsion to do so was as follows. Previously, Igor Vasilyevich with his cooperative “Carnival”, we can say, served the muses – Melpomene and Terpsichore: they created scenery for creative artistic groups, sewed for professional and amateur ballet troupes, pointe shoes, tutus, theatrical costumes. And everything went well, until one day he rescued financially good acquaintances, and they could not return the borrowed money. Without deception, they honestly admitted their financial insolvency and offered to pay in kind – car repair paints, which were traded. “I looked at those banks with foreign language labels,” – Mr Ihor recalls, “and I didn’t know what it was and what to do with it.” But something still had to be done, not desperately waved. That’s how he started a new and completely unexpected thing. And, you know, I do not regret at all, I am even grateful to those borrowers who changed my business so abruptly “.

Having considerable business experience and innate entrepreneurial skills, Igor Petyukh quickly and successfully got used to a new business – sales of paints and related coating materials for car repairs, and gave the name of his new company eloquent, figuratively certifying its profile. With the development of the company “Barvy shvydkosti” it became “tight” in the range of car paints, and it was considered appropriate to expand them, entering the woodworking industry, which always requires large volumes and a wide range of finishing and other materials. Moreover, there is already sufficient working capital for this, they had the necessary staffing, allowed logistical opportunities. In general, it must be acknowledged that it has long been customary for “Barvy shvydkosti” almost every year to either expand the range of finishing products familiar to the company or start delivering new products. For example, adhesives, finishing films, decorative panels. Only the last two years have slowed down a bit, but the owner of the company is confident that it will be able to restore it soon. To make the company’s mission, which is marked with the phrase “The best European brands for the strength and success of Ukrainian business”, even more meaningful.

– At some stage of the company’s development, you have complicated your business by adding engineering to the traditional material supply activity – you have also started to supply equipment for working with finishing and covering materials. What was your urgent need for this?

– If really, the urgent need was not so much for us as for our customers, who, mostly using cheap, low-quality, low-productivity equipment, performed (and some still continue) finishing work inefficiently, suffering losses due to unreasonably significant costs. and loss of finishing materials. The amount of losses when performing finishing operations with imperfect equipment consists of extra electricity costs, higher labour costs, which are paid. Increases losses and finishing lack, which is not uncommon in the old-fashioned painting sites. Of course, we offer the equipment and finishing technologies of the most modern samples. Yes, it is not cheap, but, as practice shows, the saving of consumables quickly pays off in those who are guided by folk wisdom, that the cheap fish is a liquid soup.

– Last year, the company introduced a customer support service for decorative HPL-panels. What is its essence?

Due to the fact that we are united not only by joint work, but also periodically joint recreation, participation in sports and health activities, and the team “Barvy shvydkosti” has stabilized. As the founder and owner of the company, I have introduced commemorative signs, which we use to reward employees who have been dedicated to the company for many years. There are those among them who have worked with me for over a quarter of a century.
