“UAFM in the faces”: the story of lamination of wood panels and production of furniture facades in the company “Deco Group” from its co-owner and director Daria Tymoshenko

Qualitative indicators of facades are a stronger competitive advantage than price ones

The Dnieper company “Deco Group” is a well-known manufacturer of furniture facades using both a wide range of traditional and innovative materials that appear on the market. The company’s range also includes such furniture components as countertops.

The co-owners of the company are Daniil and Daria Tymoshenko.

– Although our company was established as one of eleven different production units of the local plant “Otis Tarda”, – said its co-owner and current director Daria Tymoshenko, – but operates as a self-sufficient business structure. At one time, a special room was built especially for it and for its production specifics, and thus for high-tech equipment designed for lamination of wood panels and production of furniture facades. When the project proved its success, and the company has gained potential for further development, its production capacity has expanded: another furniture shop was built. Currently, Deco Group already has offices in Kyiv. And the capital’s division for more efficient logistics will be not only trade, as now but also production. Preparations for this are already underway.

– If the company from the moment of creation is engaged in the lamination of wooden plates, then, probably, from them also make furniture facades?

– That’s right. Although our plates are suitable both for use as wall panels and for production of concealed mounting doors for what we buy them from us. As for the facades, in particular, our furniture is ordered by furniture makers who either do not have the appropriate equipment at all, or it is not as high-tech and high-precision as ours, or it is not adapted to the processing of certain materials, especially new ones. We also order facades from companies with large volumes of production, which do not have time to process slabs for the manufacture of facades in their production.   

– Do you also make countertops of laminated MDF boards to order for furniture?

– They are quite suitable for both countertops and kitchen aprons. However, for the manufacture of countertops still much more often use imported boards – compact laminate HPL, which we have presented in a wide range of sizes and decors. Again, our customers do not often buy such plates for self-manufacturing of countertops from us as they order us to make them, because for high-quality work with such a very dense, impact-resistant material we need high-precision CNC machines with appropriate programs, which we use.

Now at the peak of popularity in furniture thin facades. This 12 mm compact laminate is just right for them. It’s good, but making facades from it is a technologically complex process. And the fittings need special, under which you have to make high-precision additives, washed.

– Even from what you have said, your competitive advantages emerge. Let’s talk about them.

– It has already been mentioned that in addition to wrapping plates with almost all known materials – PVC films, HPL plastics, acrylics – we use the latest. Among them, the name is primarily Intellect, a nanotechnological material made in Germany, resistant to scratches and fingerprints, contact with it gives a pleasant tactile sensation. This is a real breakthrough in the market of covering materials for the production of furniture and interior decoration. Also in the category of innovative and better known in the market Crystal, which combines the properties of natural glass and thermoplastic laminate.     

As for traditional materials, we also select them of the highest quality according to European standards. If it is MDF, then the densest, with the lowest level of “chemistry”, if glue for wrapping plates, it is PUR from one of the most authoritative German manufacturers. And if the price of our products is slightly higher than the prices of competitors, it does not weaken our market position: quality indicators – a stronger competitive advantage than price.

Another competitive position is the high quality of finishing materials and furniture components made of them. This applies to the implementation of additives, which have already been mentioned, and milling, and perhaps most of all to the processing of plate edges. We count them so reliably that the part will soak in water for six months without the slightest penetration of moisture into the body of the plate (which we demonstrate to potential customers not only at exhibitions). This quality of edging is achieved due to the high quality of veneer tapes, and the excellent PUR glue, and, of course, due to the equipment (we have purchased an entire edging station for such a high level of veneering). 

And another important detail: we have exclusive tapes, colour and texture as consistent as possible with the material of lamination of plates. Our supplier provides us with these in accordance with the samples of slab wraps that we provide. 

And we sell plate materials (first of all a compact laminate) favourably for clients – can get if necessary both a half-plate and a quarter.

It is not superfluous to add that we carry out lamination to order from any material of the customer after preliminary stipulation: volumes of rolling, the material of rolling, thickness and dimensions of an MDF plate.
