“UAFM in the faces”: interview with Sergei Gusev, co-owner of “Decido”

Successful tandem of a furniture maker and a restaurateur

Sergei Gusev – in the furniture business a person is not accidental. The decision to start his own furniture production in the Black Sea was quite natural and motivated for him. But the idea to try out for the furniture manufacturing sphere HoReCa, or, as they say, for the industry of hospitality, arose spontaneously by chance.

My father worked as a foreman in a furniture studio, and Sergei not only visited there often but also, as it happened, helped. So he had no superficial idea of what furniture was, what it was made of, and how it was made. In fact, repair and restoration of furniture is also a kind of furniture production, albeit an incomplete cycle.

He was one of the critical period matches when Sergei could not find a decent job specialty, then come to a logical decision to do the usual thing – the constriction of furniture, but independently on the basis of private enterprise. They bought simple equipment and started a business. The father as a master performed the main work in their furniture studio, the son helped and along the way developed the family business. A year later, they hired the first three workers and got out of the garage, where the Gusev’s studio was located, into a more solid room. And then – it’s easy to guess – I wanted more than to repair and restore furniture – to create and produce them, as they say, from scratch. They began passing to the order and to manufacture individual furniture. The final formation of the company can be considered the year 2012, the period when it moved to its own premises, built on the acquired land.

Once Serhiy was passing by a restaurant – more precisely, the future restaurant, which was just preparing to open – and then he came up with a blessed idea, which can now be said to be fateful for his current furniture business and Decido in particular. “Why not try to offer the restaurateur our furniture services?”. I stopped and suggested that receives and was the first restaurant orders, which defined and further specialization of the company, and the direction of its development. And it would irreversibly direct the company to the field of HoReCa that after the first successfully implemented restaurant project, similar orders, so-called hail. It so happened that they received twelve orders at once – miraculously coped with such a load.

The next landmark, the fundamental, far-sighted decision of Sergei Gusev (no matter how many more approving epithets to add – all will be appropriate in this case ) was to offer a partnership in his furniture business to an experienced restaurateur. This is how this successful tandem was formed, and how the professional competencies and knowledge in the furniture business and restaurant art were combined – the tandem of Serhiy Gusev and Olena Egamova. With the advent of enterprise Olena “Decido” immediately rose to the highest level of expertise that not only significantly strengthened its image, not only favorably singled out among other similar companies, but also, in the end, it gave the company legal right to position itself as an expert in the case of furnishing institutions in the field of HoReCa.

– What is the main difference between the production of furniture for hotels, restaurants, cafes from the production of household furniture, ie home furniture?

– Living establishments HoReCa – furniture for commercial needs of those they will order there. Therefore, when creating them, you need to take into account the environment, the specific conditions in which they will operate, so that they can help the customer in his business. So we are meant to furniture to help customers build and further and maintain a successful business.

HoReCa is not only hotels, restaurants, and cafes, but also other hospitality establishments with their own specific features – fast-food, hookah, sushi bars, and more. This specificity must be well known, professionally understood in its nuances and differences, which at first glance do not seem to exist, to offer the customer exactly what will exactly meet his needs and will work to the maximum prestige of his institution and its profitability. And here the knowledge and rich experience of the restaurateur, which Olena can not borrow, is extremely useful and necessary.

Of course, fast food furniture, where fast, streamlined customer service, is unlikely to be the same level of comfort as restaurant furniture. There are other nuances that furniture of the same purpose – especially restaurant tables – diversify not only in design, which is quite natural but also to some extent functional. Depending on which cuisine – national, Japanese, Arabic and so on – “pointed” restaurant: because the number of dishes and cutlery is different, and their size and ways of serving tables.

Summing up is said Sergei concluded that t In this way the company worked out a new, higher level of relations between it – the manufacturer, its suppliers, business partners, architects and designers whose projects primarily sell “turnkey”, and customers. It is no coincidence that the company insults such a name (“decido” in Spanish “solution”): it primarily offers comprehensive solutions – not only the furnishing of HoReCa but also their complete interior completion. Thanks to partnerships and cooperation with fifty contractors.

– There is a laboratory in the structure of your company. What is its function?

– In fact, it is a design office, but we have this unit called a laboratory. Its task is to design exclusive furniture for some projects. In general, we have a fairly wide range of our basic models of chairs, stools – including bars, tables, furniture for terraces, on the basis of which many complex projects have been implemented, but it happens that the customer prefers to have largely individualized models of such furniture. Here we are in the laboratory and create them. Some of them are then put into serial production to expand the existing range.

– Do you have full-time designers?

– In fact, we have no urgent need for that. Implementing various projects in the hospitality industry, we work closely with dozens of interesting, talented, creative, and authoritative architects and designers, because we actually make furniture according to their projects. The most successful models tested by the market become serial, and they formed our current basic range.
