UAFM in the faces: Interview with Ruslan Kovalenko, co-founder of Neocon.

… And the impossible becomes possible,

when “Neocon” undertakes the business, implementing advertising and production projects of any complexity. In addition, the company increasingly focuses its creative and production potential on the development of innovative integrated interior solutions for retail and catering networks throughout Ukraine (retail equipment, brand areas, shop-in-shop, receptions, bar counters, etc.). And here it should be noted that “advertising” is a root word, a fundamental concept for the company and especially for its founder Ruslan Kovalenko.

Before starting his own business, Ruslan, a graduate of the capital’s Polytechnic, put his computer science degree on the shelf and began to establish himself as an advertising manager in a well-known publishing holding. Heading the advertising department of the then-popular women’s magazine, he built an effective system of advertising sales for the editorial office. This was a good reason to rise to a higher career level – the head of an advertising agency.

Over the years of working in the advertising business, he deeply delved into this area, having studied in detail all its “nooks and crannies”, developed his entrepreneurial talents, so he clearly and unmistakably identified a niche in which to develop your own business. The idea was this: in fact, remaining in the advertising business, known from “a” to “z”, to sell not advertising, as before, and its subject accessories, conceptually creating and producing them. In other words, a promising and in-demand market was to produce and sell materialized means of advertising, because those who needed them and the advertisers themselves were not able to do so.

We started with the production of various kinds of sales-promoting, sales-stimulating things for shops: price tags, stands for goods, advertising and information signs, navigation signs, coins – all that is called POP / POS-materials. For the production of which different types of plastics, glass, innovative types of printing are used.   We have always strived for the trade “helpers” created by “Neoсon” to be distinguished by the creativity of the solution and non-standard execution.

Later it was realized that advertising tasks in stores can to some extent be performed by trade equipment, especially logoed. We decided to master its production, for which we had to “invade” the furniture industry, which was a new challenge and a new stage in the development of the company. The trade display and a trade rack – the irreplaceable equipment for a trading establishment. The original display allows you to highlight the product among the mass of competing products, increase the presence of a particular brand at the point of sale and the number of shelves occupied by the brand. The trade display increases a stock in a trading hall, does the goods more noticeable and more attractive to the consumer. As a result, such advertising equipment stimulates the sale of goods and increases the sales of goods and products of a particular brand.

– We have never produced standardized, universal trade equipment, – says Ruslan Kovalenko, – always only branding. In the corporate colour and style of a particular brand. In particular, for such well-known and reputable brands as “Gorenje”, “Philips”, “Sony”, “Samsung”, “Nokia” and a number of others.

And from trade equipment, there was a step to the real furniture, and it and a step, of course, “Neoсon” made, having mastered the production of tables, curbstones, reception racks. And again – always furniture items were designed and manufactured in accordance with the style of a particular interior. Thus, they came to the ability to perform complex interior projects. And one of the first such large-scale orders was the interior design of a large entertainment centre “Art Mall” in the capital. There you will find products of “Neoсon” everywhere: the equipment and furniture, capacities for green plantings, rather dimensional and difficult in the form decorative inventions, outdoor advertising and navigational indexes, reception, zones of children’s rest.

Innovation and experimentation are the defining features of Neocon’s activity. In this way, she learned to work with artificial stone, so that hardly anyone else can compete with her on an equal footing. To the company’s credit, it was the first in Ukraine to use acrylic stone for the production of trade equipment. The first such project was the arrangement of a trade salon designed by Oleg Volosovsky. And the most significant and significant in the history of the company, its founder considers the tender won in a fierce struggle with dozens of applicants during the reconstruction of the capital’s Central Department Store. The biggest contract, the biggest hassle, the biggest responsibility – and as a result its successful completion.

Ruslan Kovalenko said that the next stage in the company’s development will be the creation of an engineering centre on its basis – both intellectual and production – which will develop new technologies for working with materials that are essential in its production activities. And they themselves will use them to confirm the invariability of the slogan “We make the impossible possible”, and on a commercial basis will share innovative technological secrets with others who will find them interesting and necessary. Will be shared by organizing training courses, workshops, seminars on the basis of the future engineering centre.

– Ruslan, you once said that your son is a director. Didn’t you want him, like you, to become the “director” of those projects, which to a large extent you also creatively and creatively implement with the “Neoсon” team, that is, your assistant?

– Yes, he is undoubtedly a talented, creative person, but for what I do, he also lacks engineering skills. But such hopes can be placed on the younger. He is only twelve, but this year he “worked part-time” for me. He was engaged in what was interesting and accessible to him. It is important to me that at the same time I asked a lot of questions, in essence, showing genuine interest and desire to understand things of a practical nature, why the school does not teach.

We thank Ruslan for the interview and wish further success to his business as a creative and driving force that contributes to the growth of the attractiveness of the Ukrainian manufacturer’s products.
