  • Offices are fleeing non-residential premises
  • Valentine’s day and business
  • Changed criteria for taxpayer audits
  • IKEA in Kyiv: furniture is not a priority
  • If you want to be a furniture maker, be!

Read everything that happened last week in Ukraine and around the world and that is relevant and interesting for the furniture maker in our digest:

1. In Ukraine, since November, the tariff for heating non-residential buildings has risen for legal entities, where a coefficient of 2.1 is applied due to higher gas prices. As a result, figures for heating of non-residential premises appeared, which are many times higher than last year.

Many small and medium-sized offices cannot withstand the pressure and are leaving the non-residential premises.

The company is trying to solve the situation in two ways. The first: by changing the contractual terms with the owner, agreeing on a joint payment for the cost of heating, often on a par – 50 to 50. Or move to residential premises equipped as offices, where the rent has not risen.

2. Today is Valentine’s Day. Many people celebrate it with their other half, distracting from the daily routine and workdays. However, there are times when celebrating this date is part of corporate life: employers or employees themselves pay attention to verbal greetings and gifts to each other.

Personnel portal grc.ua conducted a survey. Its purpose was to determine the attitude of Ukrainian companies toward Valentine’s Day. It turned out that in three out of four cases this holiday is ignored at the corporate level. However, in every seventh company, colleagues greet each other verbally. Slightly less, namely 12%, are welcomed in a working chat, through social networks or by e-mail. Another 5% treat each other with goodies. It is very rare to have parties, give flowers, prepare pleasant surprises and sign Valentine’s cards.

Interestingly, the gender factor has little effect on the habit of celebrating this day in corporate circles. Is it worth noting that men are four times less likely to make valentines?

3. Changed criteria for selection of taxpayers of both legal entities and individuals, which the tax authorities will determine for inspections, have been in force in Ukraine since Friday.

The Ministry of Finance believes that the changed criteria allow using the mechanism of priority response to those cases in which there is a high probability of underpayment or concealment of the object of taxation, as well as reducing the number of audited entities.

4. During the first year of operation, the IKEA city format store in Kyiv sold 2.7 million items. The company ranked the products that were most popular among Ukrainians. Furniture items are not in the first place in this ranking. In the second position – chairs. Modules and shelves for shoes took seventh and eighth place in the list of what Kyivites bought most often. Other types of furniture are not in the top ten items bought in this store most often.

5. 4pm Self Build is a new chair concept from the Swedish studio “Massproductions”, which designers offer to create their own. The idea for the item came from one of the company’s founders, Chris Martin while working on the 4pm model. “We realized that the homemade version of the 4pm chair will be cheap, simple and interesting to create. If someone can’t afford the original model, they will be able to make their own furniture item with the help of instructions, which will cost them cheaply, ”says Martin. You can download the necessary instructions for free on the studio’s website. To create a chair yourself, you will need some plywood, slats, glue, screws, and an electric drill.

Customized versions of the 4pm Self Build chair will be on display at Design Week in Stockholm.
